The literary genre of Southern Gothic combines gothic atmosphere with social realism. It often explores decay, moral corruption, and hidden violence beneath the surface.
I chose an approach that focuses more on the atmosphere and human presence in space, without emphasizing characters or even including them at all.
To make the series recognizable, I picked several compositional features and a color scheme. Regardless of the novel, the illustrations always repeat the diagonals, the placement of light, and a small object in particular place on the back of the cover.
